Holga Seascapes

With the exception of Beanie Babies, I’ve never been a collector. I’ve always wanted to display a shelf of really cool “things” of a similar sort, but the honest truth is I’ve never really cared enough about “things” to really get a collection going. In elementary school my friends collected Hello Kitty gadgets, Pogs, Pokemon cards, yo-yos, et cetera. I was the girl with one pack of Pokemon cards (didn’t get a legit holographic Charizard, so quit after my first pack), one American Girl doll whose hair I chopped too short (instantly regretted but tried to talk my friends into doing the same), and one Fireball yo-yo (which I never learned how to “put to sleep” so conveniently misplaced).

Obviously, I wasn’t a savvy collector. However, as an adult, I’ve got this little collection blossoming of things I’m quite fond of– les cameras. Although I only have a handful, the ones I do own are true gems. Among them is my Japanese made Holga toy camera. Pure plastic. $60. Tops. It takes 120 mm film, about 16 pictures per role, and typically yields 10 impressive prints. It isn’t super cheap to print, but in my mind, the photos this camera produces are really special. Each photo has a personality of its own– light leaks, double exposures, muted colors, gritty grain, you name it.

I’m thinking of bringing it with me on shoots. Maybe offer the prints as a bonus set in my packages, if anyone is interested. Thoughts?

Now to share: Some fun Holga photos I captured on a beach date with The Guy. Ladies and Gentlemen, meet The Holga Seascapes.
