Now You’re In New York

My all time fav blog post has been MIA. For far far too long.

Before the launch of this incredible blog (gifted to me by Andrew Schey) I had a humble little Blogspot. On that Blogspot was a documentary of my first trip to New York. My excursions in NY are some of my fondest memories yet– it was a time in my life where new seeds were being sewn, a season marked by personal liberation and rejuvenation.

East Coast culture made me feel alive; something about the trip truly awakened me. My senses were excited, my heart beat out of my chest in anticipation of each new sun rising (which I was usually up to see). The noise. The color. The cold. The food. The girl talks. The rain. The cab rides. And the flirting. Oh how I remember the flirty little texts sent back and forth– in fact, I even remember what some of them said, and where I was when I received them. It was the beginning stages of Whitney Plus Andrew; new love on the horizon only jolted me from excited to ecstatic.

When I look back at these pictures I see places– but more importantly, I remember feelings. I can recall each photo’s story like it was taken yesterday. I tell you, my mind was stimulated and my heart was a stir. I can’t tell you how glad I am that I have these dear experiences documented, tucked away, for days that need a little reminding.

Photography is such a gift. I love how a picture can awaken a part of our brain that sometimes hides from us memories that we didn’t even know we still had. I love that my mind remembers more than what I’m aware of, and I’m grateful that certain special times in my life aren’t lost for good. We can remember who we were, where we’ve come, what we’ve learned, and what we’ve felt, all from a little digital file. In case I’ve neglected to mention it lately: I feel so privileged to hold a camera, to capture an instant, to help recall a story. I love photography.

Wow, I really love these photos! I especially love the second one and the one of all the taxis in what I’m assuming is Times Square. These photos make me want to plan a trip to NYC right now!!

These are wonderful! It’s amazing how beautiful the streets of NYC can be.

Can you talk about your post-processing workflow? I would love to know what actions you use.
